UltraCruiser Plans Modifications

January 2003

NOTE: Page numbers reference the current (revised) plans,  page numbers will vary slightly for plans purchased prior to August 2002.

Page 5

  • Install gusset to two nose ribs, inboard of outer panels (see sketch).

 Page 6

  • Drawing revision—removed the note about the flanges on the front of the rib. doublers that was located in the blown up view of the spar assembly.  The flanges are not necessary.

Page 8

  • Add front flange to wing tip inboard end rib.

 Page 9

  • The quantity of vertical fin spar lightening holes should be six (see sketch).

  • Rudder hinge, vertical fin side, changed .500 to .750  (see sketch).

  • All plans from this point forward will have a rudder that is 4” wider.  Existing rudders can be modified with a full length tab.

  • The dorsal fin rivets are type 2, not type 1.

  • The rudder spar to bulkhead “F” rivets are type 2, not type 1.

 Page 10

  • The stabilizer doubler and tail spring doublers can be fastened with type 2 rivets instead of type 1.

  • The size of the doublers on the vertical fin and rudder were changed to 2” x 2.25”.

 Page 11

  • Moved bellcrank bracket up to clear wing attach fitting (see sketch).

  • We have modified the control stick to allow the right aileron tube to clear the elevator drive (see sketch).

  • The aileron bellcranks can be mounted with type 2 instead of type 1 rivets.

  • It is noted that the assembly of the control stick torque tube should be done with cam grease. It has been suggested that this grease be added or checked frequently to prevent galding between the torque tube and the sleeves.  We have checked this design to eliminate the possibility of galding (see sketch).  Some say change is not necessary.  We will always error on the safe side.

 Page 12

  • We have modified the torque plate to accommodate the Tracy O’Brien hydraulic brakes as well as the band brakes (see sketch).

  • Due to builders’ requests, we are including a tri-gear option; a sketch for the nose gear is included.  The mains are simply turned around 180º and swapped L to R.  The 5/8 block is added to align the top bolt (see sketch).

  • The rivets along the strut tube, mounting the gussets to the tube, should be CCPQ-43 stainless steel rivets or equal (can be found at Wick’s).

NOTE:  Information on an instrument panel has been omitted on purpose due to the infinite number of desires and choices of equipment and looks, your feedback has suggested we include the instrument panel without cutouts.  The plans will show an optional instrument panel for builders who choose not to use bulkhead “B” for instruments.

Note: If you have trouble printing pictures-- it will work best for most to open a new Word or Works document, in page setup click on "landscape" if you need to turn you paper (for sketches such as the control torque tube), and set your margins as small as it will let you (1/4" if possible).  On this page, click on the picture below and after it loads in the new window right click it and then click "copy".  Back in your Word or Works document, right click and choose "paste" from the menu.  Now, if necessary, select the sketch by clicking on it and you should be able to grab the edge with your mouse and resize it (or right click on the sketch and choose "properties" and in that menu you should be able to reset the size to fit your page).  I hope this helps, feel free to e-mail me if you have trouble, but please include what software you are using.
