"I have recently completed the rework of a Maule M4 (Nov02)
and have not started the Ultra Cruiser yet. The Maule took some time and I
did not want two irons in the fire at once. I will probably wait until after
Sun and Fun to commence anything on the "cruiser"." |

"Completed a Genesis kit, and was looking for another
project. Since I am located only 25 miles from Morry I decided on the UC.
Raw materials purchased and bulkheads completed." |

"Recently acquired this project from another builder in
Michigan (his workmanship is outstanding). The entire tail section and
control surfaces are complete less the horizontal stabilizer. The weldments
are completed and attached on the elevator and rudder. The first two
bulkheads from the tail are skinned. All bulkheads are complete. I will be
setting my beam soon to position the balance of bulkheads for skinning. All
wing ribs and spars are complete and ready for assembly. My plans are to
finish skinning the fuselage, center wing sections and getting on gear for
next several months. Would like to hear from another builder within
reasonable driving distance." |

"Just an old guy that thought he better get started
on fulfilling a boyhood dream of building airplanes and took a couple of years building a
compac 110 ultralight sailplane that has been test flown satisfactorily. In the
process of building it I found that I enjoyed working in aluminum so I have chosen the
UltraCruiser for my next project.. I would like to contact someone in my area (near
Rochester NY ) that is working in A SIMILAR PROJECT" |

"First plane I built was a Bede 5 to about 80%. never
getting parts, I sold it and built a KR-2 with my own designed tri-gear. Sold plans
all over the world as a retro-fit. Decided on the UC cause it looked like a real
airplane...not a "tube, cable & rag" thing. My UC needs a canopy &
it will be fully finished. I will test fly without it. The weather is
good here in Grants Pass. The UC is, in my opinion, easy to build, especially if you
solicit help from other UC builders. They are very eager to help." |

Started T-18 about1968, sold to pay for childrens' college. I
now fly a Kolb FireStar, 400+ hours. Bulkheads skinned on my Ultracruiser. I
plan on taking material to FL. and build the wing ribs starting in Feb.
return about April 20. I hope to be at Sun-n-Fun the first 2 days, then
start home. |

"I recently purchased my UltraCruiser from Bill DeFreze in
Grants Pass Oregon. Towed it home on the custom built trailer and it
is now sitting in my garage. Hope to fly it within the next 2 weeks,
after making some changes to the engine area. Will be displaying it at
the local Airshow at Arlington Airfield, Arlington Washington, on July 12
and 13. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at my
email address, will get back to you asap!" |

"I have built and flown successfully two Fisher 303's and one
N3 Pup clone. This is my first attempt at building with sheet metal. I
have completed approx. one half of the ribs and some parts in the tail
group.
I plan to build this as a tri gear and with a four cylinder vw. I am
looking forward to seeing the prototype at Sun-N-Fun!" |

"I built a Skypup ultralight back in "88 then started a GP4
in "90. Cost of project and other priorities caused the GP4 project to
stall so decided to start another ultralight to keep my hand in it. The
Ultracruiser looked like a great opportunity to develop sheet metal skills
with the final reward of a great little plane. Have completed all but the
canopy, fuel tank, elevator and firewall forward. Also need wheels/brakes
and am waiting for delivery of a 1/2 VW from Scot. Hope to be in the air by
Fall." |

"My project is going together
very nicely, with the help of my son-in-law Kevin. I am placing the wing 14
inches back from bulkhead B; I was fortunate that I decided to build the
tailfeathers first. Otherwise I would have put the wing at the 10 inch
point. I am installing a spring gear system using valve springs out of
Chevrolet Big Block engine. I will probably go over weight and have to have
a side number, but that is okay. Only problem I see is that I am 23 inches
across the shoulders, so I may fly it with canopy off if I am uncomfortable
with it on. I also have a Starduster Too about 2/3 finished in my garage, so
I am squeezed for space there, too." |

"I have wing ribs and nose ribs complete. I have the fuselage
formers mounted on 1X4s which were hard to find two straight ones. I
have the wing carry through comp. with all angles ready to mount with shear
web. I retired from McDonnel Douglas Aircraft where I was a trouble
shooter for 35 years at the great old age of 57. Built a mini-max first off
, then a Ragwing bi-plane , I had two Quicksilvers then decided to try my
hand at alum. construction." |

"Just getting in line for an UC
quickbuild kit. Have buit a few things before this including Glasair II,
Pulsar (article and cover of Kitplanes 9/92), 2 Zenith CH 250 (aerobatic
versions), RV6A, ultralights and a few renovated Grumman AA1's. Anyway, time
to get out of the "paper game" with the Feds etc. and get back into some
very enjoyable low and slow flying again. Looking forward to the project and
H.A. seem like nice folks to deal with.
Anybody in my area that wants to
hook up feel free to call 770 931 7721 or cell 404 312 1166." |

"I started my project several years back, but have had many
interruptions, including the death of my mother and dealing with her estate,
selling her house, moving, and going on a reduced income from Social
Security. I now have a "shop" in which to build the UC, but there is too
much clutter. Building a barn for storage, then I will be able to get back
on the UC project. So far, as of 06/08/05, I have only built the bulkheads
tied together with stringers. Would welcome hearing from other builders.

"First flight was April 24, 2002. As of February '03, I have
flown just over 40 hours. Highest altitude 12,000 MSL where the climb rate
was 500 fpm. This is with a Cuyuna engine. My longest trip so far was 4.5
hours not counting a stop for gas." |

"I got the plan on
February 2002, but not yet started. Because this is my first plan to build, so there
are many items that I have to learn/prepare before start. I just received some
videos "From the Ground" and books "Sport Plane Construction Tech,"
"Sport Plane Builder" etc. from EAA yesterday. At this time, I cannot say
when I start my plan, but I hope I can inform you my plan start in near future." |

"First time builder. As of 2/19/03 I am about 20% finished
with airframe. I am already considering building a second UC just to
correct all the minor dings, scratches, and not quite perfect construction.
I expect to fly September 03." |

been a struggle trying to figure out some of the discrepancies in the plans, but so far so
good. I have all the parts built, so this weekend I start to put it all together. Any
advice from you guys will be appreciated." |

"Ordered wing ribs at Sun-N-Fun 2003 and from a 3x5 postcard
received a Morry Hummel 1/2 32 HP engine with gages, cruise and climb prop,
single and duel carburetors. All this for just less then the price of the
engine alone at today prices. 0 HRS on the engine. This indeed was a great
find. Since I live in Florida I may add floats too. I will soon be finished
with my 16x20 work shop and can begin this great project. I believe in the
near future this will be one of the most sought after ultralights, being an
all metal vehicle. Fars Part 103 doesn't classify ultralights as
aircraft. PS, sail cloth doesn't hold up but a few years down here. Too much
PM cost. " |

"I started a Teanie Two when I was
sixteen (more than three decades ago!) but never got off the ground. I have never owned my
own aircraft (I soloed a Skipper back in '90) so I'm excited to be building this
UltraCruiser. I met Morry twelve years ago, and planned at some point in building one of
his designs. Now I am, after building my home, and a few other delays. I have the
bulkheads mounted on a six by six beam which turns 360 degrees for easy access to the
skins. Look forward to taking to the sky by next summer." |
