CA-2 Plan Updates and
Clarifications
|
NOTE: If your plans were sent after July 30, 2002 these revisions
are shown on your plans.
- On DWG 1, At the bottom of the page a dimension is given for the overall length of
the fuselage 154 1/8". On some plan sets the 4 didn't
reproduce well and the measurement appears to be 151 1/8". Please note this
clarification on your plans.
- On DWG 12, The measurement given for the lower channel on the fin is given as 20
9/32". This particular dimension should be modified to exactly fit the
builder's fuselage. Some builders have found that an additional inch has been
required for proper fit.
- On DWG 5 and 6, the distance between the seat mounting rails is given as 10"
( 5" to center ). On DWG 31 this dimension is shown as 10 1/2 " and
should read 10".
- See revised DWG 5 which shows more specific placement of a gusset.
NOTE: The following information comes from the
Spring 2000 issue of CA-2 Flyer
newsletter.
A builder got his left wing completed, and when he tried the fit it to the
fuselage, it did not fit! This was a real bummer, and had
him scratching his head.
Now in this particular area, the plans are just a bit confusing. The full
size rib drawing gives the distance between the outside edges of the spar
attach fittings as 33 11/16". On DWG 2, it shows the distance between frame
A, and frame C, as 33 11/16". Now that seems reasonable, but Harold tells me
that the spar carry thru ( 1 X 1 X 1/8 6061-T6 ) is inside frame A, (again,
see DWG 2) lessening that distance by a 1/8" to 33 9/16". ( The rear spar
attach, bolts directly to frame C.) So they can't both measure 33 11/16".
Frame A has to be bumped forward 1/8" or, relocate the
spar attach fitting to the inside the spar angle, and add a 1/16 spacer to
the spar thru to line things up ( His fix to the wing already built, on the
one not assembled, he adjusted the rib flanges to suit ). Study the plans
carefully, I'm open to other ideas.
George Genevro weighed in on this issue with the following idea. Make a
fixture out of a three ft. piece of angle iron, with two tabs attached at
the specified spar spacing. ( remember one will be longer than the other
since the inboard rib is not perpendicular to the spanwise center-line of
the wing ). By attaching tabs the thickness of the spar attach fittings,
this fixture can be used to accurately space the spar thrus, or wing spars,
which ever is built first.
